Dynamo Kyiv vs Brugge – Tuesday, August 13, 18:30 BST/19:30 CEST – NSK Olimpiyskiy Stadium, Kyiv, Ukraine
After a narrow defeat last week, Dynamo Kyiv will look to bounce back in the second leg of this UEFA Champions League qualifier. They will host Belgian Club Brugge on Tuesday.
The Ukrainians were unlucky not to earn a result in Brugge. Despite having conceded a penalty, the Ukrainians held their ground but were wasteful with their chances. The White-Blues had a few opportunities to take the lead early in the first match but were unable to convert their shots on goal. Ultimately, their inability to finish cost them a result in the first leg.
Dynamo’s recent domestic match will also not provide much encouragement ahead of the second leg of this Champions League qualifier. The White-Blues faced their fiercest rivals this weekend, where they lost 1-2 to Shakhtar Donetsk. The loss against their rivals will not inspire confidence ahead of the match against Brugge on Tuesday, but the Ukrainians will know the aggregate score is within reach and can be overcome.
Overall, while it is obvious, Dynamo will have to play at their best. Should they prevent Brugge from scoring, the Ukrainians will move onto the next round. It will be difficult, but Dynamo are capable of shutting out their opponents.
Meanwhile, Club Brugge know they are in a good position to advance from this tie. The Belgians earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory last week, and should they score an away goal in Kyiv, they will have one foot into the next round of the Champions League qualifiers.
Their recent domestic performance will inspire confidence. The Blue-Blacksovercame Oostende on Saturday 0-2, and due to their convincing performance, Brugge was able to rest some of their starters ahead on Tuesday’s Champions League qualifier. A clean sheet will also encourage the Belgian defence to put on a strong performance in the second leg of this affair.
Therefore, Brugge know they are the favourites of this tie. They know Dynamo have to score, and this should serve as an advantage for the away side. If Club Brugge can hold Dynamo at bay, this will force Dynamo to press forward for an equaliser, and this will allow Brugge to spring a counter-attack. Should the Belgians score an away goal, the match will be as good as over.
Dynamo Kyiv vs Brugge – Players to Watch:
Serhiy Sydorchuk #5 – Dynamo Kyiv
Serhiy Sydorchuk’s side fell 1-0 in Belgium in the first leg, and it will be the captain’s responsibility to see his side advance to the next stage of the UEFA Champions League qualifiers. Their deficit is very manageable, and should he be able to inspire his side; the Ukrainians will move on to the next round. Otherwise, they will be eliminated from Champions League contention.
David Okereke #14 – Club Brugge
David Okereke is Club Brugge’s leading scorer this season with four goals and one assist in three appearances. The Nigerian striker has established himself well at the start of the 2019/20 season, and he will look to translate this success to the international level. He proved himself to be a nuisance for Dynamo’s defence last week, and he will likely frustrate them again in this leg.
