On a snowy pitch Dynamo Kyiv struck first when Júnior Moraes received a wonderful ball from Rybalka, and after escaping Shakhtar’s defence easily slipped the ball past Andriy Pyatov. Shakhtar then struck back when Yevhen Khacheridi redirected a Bernard free kick into his own goal. The game then ebbed back and forward, as both teams struggled to come to terms with the difficult pitch conditions at the Olimpiyskyi. It was therefore no surprise that the next goal would come from a set play, as Serhiy Rybalka scored after he circled a wonderful free kick into Shakhtar’s goal.
Shakhtar equalized early in the second half when Marlos spotted Fred in the centre of the penalty box, and the Brazilian midfielder made no mistake to equalize the score for the miners. Dynamo responded to Shakhtar’s equalizer by pressing forward, and the Miners set deep looking to break on the counter, and it was on such a counter that Shakhtar would score next. Winning the ball in their own half Shakhtar went on the immediate counter attack, and Marlos would eventually find Facundo Ferreyra in the box, who would make no mistake to make it 3-2 for Shakhtar with a wonderful header. Dynamo again responded, but after a well played attack by Derlis González Moraes lost his nerve and punched Darijo Srna in the face. The referee had no choice and sent the Brazilian off with a straight red card.
Being a man down Dynamo kept pressing for the equalizer whereas Shakhtar attempted to hit Kyiv on the counter attack. Dynamo then had a great chance to equalize after Pyatov needlessly gave the ball away to Artem Biesiedin, but the Ukrainian forward missed the empty net. On the other side Marlos could have finished the game off after another counter attack, but Kyiv keeper Artur Rudko did well to stop Taison’s attempt. Shakhtar would, however, seal the deal when Dentinho broke through on the left side, and then banked a shot of Khacheridi to make it 2-4. Dynamo would manage to get one goal back, as Biesiedin headed home a header in the dying moments of the game.

Bernard did not score, but the Brazilian was easily the best player on the field. With his vision he repeatedly spotted weaknesses in Dynamo’s defence, playing key passes that created countless chances for the Miners. It was also Bernard’s free kick that led to Khacheridi’s own goal early in the first half.

The Ukrainian Derby is rarely without controversy, and this latest edition was no different. In the second half Moraes was sent off for what was a vicious attack against Srna.
Yevhen Khacheridi more and more becomes the symbol of Dynamo’s problems this season. The Ukrainian defender was a rock in Kyiv’s defence last season, but has struggled with his form this season, and the Ukrainian Derby was no different, as he scored two own goals.
