The Bulgarian side are in the driver’s seat to finish third in Group A of the Champions League, as they drew FC Basel 0-0 on matchday 5. Ludogorets managed a 1-1 draw in Switzerland, which means that the Bulgarians will go through if the two sides finish even on points after matchday 6.

Ludogorets, however, will have to hope that FC Basel do not continue their tradition of shocking English clubs in the UEFA Champions League. The Swiss are hosting Arsenal FC at the St. Jakob-Park on Tuesday, and Basel have in the past defeated the likes of Manchester United, and Chelsea FC at home in the Champions League group stage.

Paris Saint-Germain, in the meantime, will be looking to secure the three points they need to secure first place in the group, and are therefore unlikely to field a weakened side in order to rest players in what appears, on paper, to be a weaker opponent. In fact, Unai Emery is likely to field all his stars in order to secure a high scoring victory, and to put his squad in a good position to secure three points in case Arsenal do slip in Basel.

Paris Saint-Germain vs Ludogorets – Players to look out for:

Claudiu Keșerü has been the top scorer in the Bulgarian Parva Liga this season with eleven goals in 14 games. The 30-year-old Romanian striker tends to play on top of a 4-2-3-1 formation, and has good chemistry with the many Brazilians that Ludogorets seem to employ on a regular basis. In fact, both Marcelinho, and Wanderson have scored seven times in the Parva Liga, and the two offensive midfielders have been key in what appears to be another title defense for the Bulgarian giants.

Paris Saint-Germain vs Ludogorets – Match Stats

  • Paris’ first ever game in a UEFA competition happened 34 years ago when they played Lokomotiv Sofia in the first round of the 1982-83 European Cup Winners’ Cup. They lost 1-0 in Sofia, and won 5-1 at home.
  • Two years ago Ludogorets lost all three away games in the group stage of the Champions League, and the point in Basel already means that their point total away from home is their best ever this season.
  • Marquinhos and Thiago Motta are only one booking away from a one game match ban.
  • Paris are unbeaten in 12 competitive games.
  • Ludogorets are on a run of 12 successive league victories, two shy of the Bulgarian top-flight record set by Levski Sofia.

Futbolgrad’s Prediction: Paris Saint-Germain vs Ludogorets 4-0
